6wS: "But I don't WANNA be Jedi!"
Doesn't he look dandy in his Halloween outfit? It's from Build-A-Bear. For serious. (Which s why there are ear holes on the top of the robe's hood.)

Day 10: 6wS: Indy sez, "We helps u blog."
I'm phone-blogging again, because the laptop has decided that it no longer has wireless capabilities. (I suspect kitteh foul play.)
I also forgot to blog yesterday, which I was going to remedy today, but the laptop (and cats...?) decided to conspire against me. I'm not having a good online weekend. *sigh*
Fear not, faithful readers, I shall return soon. As soon as I figure out how to beat the laptop into submission.
(In the meantime, I may actually work on my long-ignored WIP... What a concept, huh? A writer, *writing*?)

Day 3: 6wS: Welcome home! To a broken car...
But the car kinda sorta took the wind out of my sails. Which is why I'm, once again, blogging via phone instead of using my beautiful laptop, to which I now once again have access since I am back home.
My dad offered to drive me back from Austin, since Freddy had left the week before with the car (and the laptop). So today, I said my good-byes and we departed around elevenish. We arrived in Ft. Worth, at Mom-in-law's, at four, as per The Plan; Freddy joined us shortly thereafter, in the then-functioning Stormy the Saturn ION.
She was still functioning when Freddy had to move her to the other side of the driveway. She was still functioning when Freddy followed my dad and me to the motel where my dad was spending the night before returning to Austin tomorrow morning (for some reason he doesn't like to stay at our house. I can't imagine why -- we have a futon and four cats. What more could one possibly want??)
When it was time for Freddy and me to return to our humble abode (and visit the aforementioned cats, whom I hadn't seen in over a week), Stormy decided to turn on an obscure, unknown, and secret (yes, all three) passive anti-theft device she possesses, which prevented us, her rightful and loving owners, from igniting the engine.
We could turn on the lights, the radio, pretty much any non-motorizing feature of the car. The engine? Nope.
After a lovely albeit bumpy ride in a tow truck, Freddy, Stormy, and I are back home. These events have put a damper on things, to say the least, which is why I shan't blog tonight. Tune it tomorrow when we return to our regularly scheduled programming. Hopefully from a full-sized keyboard.

UPDATE: This morning, after dropping me off at work, Freddy tried the ignition one more time, and this time it worked. He drove it to the dealer just to make sure everything was okay... turns out it was $350-not okay. And it took about four hours to figure all of that out. Meh.
At least the car works again [*crosses fingers*] and we have a shiny new battery. Merry Christmas!

6wS: "No more wire hangers!" they pleaded.

Bottom line?
You cannot make abortion illegal.
OK, fine, you are legally able to, if you get enough votes and blahblah, but my point: you cannot stop it from happening. If you make it illegal, women who want to terminate their pregnancy will continue to do what they had done for centuries before Roe v. Wade (and what many women still do, even in this "civilized," first-world country, out of fear or ignorance) -- take care of business themselves.
Whether they do it with a wire hanger, or a certain combination of herbs and vitamins, or jumper cables, or a fall down the master staircase (Scarlett O'Hara-style), they're going to find a way to terminate that pregnancy. The only difference is how much you want the woman to risk her own life.
"Pro-life"? If you make abortion illegal, dude, you get two for the price of one! Instead of the potential child being aborted, now you're getting rid of the potential child and the woman. Awesome.
The anti-choice agenda is not even realistic. Making abortion illegal is not going to make abortion go away, it's just going to make women's rights go away. And how are you going to enforce it? If abortion is "murder," then we need to punish the "murderess," right? What should that punishment be? What about women who miscarry? Are we going to put them all on trial?
Instead of fighting for something that's not going to work, let's find a way to achieve our common goal. Let's open out eyes and realize that abstinence-only education does not work, that abstinence is "not realistic at all." Let's educate teens about birth control, de-mystify sex, de-taboo it; let's give women and teens access to birth control and other basic health needs. Let's give women -- especially rape victims! -- emergency contraception. Let's keep women from getting to the point where they even have to make this choice.

6wS: "You'd rather they end up here?'
Okay, I know this is a little crass and/or sensationalistic. But I'm not making it up.
When women don't have options before we get to this point (birth control before having sex, access to abortion in the first trimester, AND YES, information about adoption services -- which Planned Parenthood does), then something like this could happen.
Sadly, we have now given celebrity status to women who didn't even know they were pregnant until the baby popped out. How can a woman possibly not know she was pregnant? Two reasons come to mind: one, denial is a darned strong force. Two, THIS IS A GROSS LACK OF EDUCATION. Would this be happening if we had comprehensive sex ed in schools? Even little things, like calling it "morning sickness" when really, it happens at any time of the day, or all day long. "Well, I didn't think I was pregnant, because I wasn't throwing up in the mornings."
I'm starting to rant, so I'm going to stop. But, in case you want to read them, here are some of the news stories that inspired the photo:

6wS: "Doctor's scrip? Sorry, we don't care."
In all fairness, this was a year or so ago... but I thought about it recently, at the play. One in 3 opens with Dena, the receptionist, coming in to work. She's carrying a CVS bag, with and EPT in it. My very first thought was about the stink a while back when a CVS pharmacist refused to fill a prescription for emergency contraception*, because of personal/religious beliefs. And the company fully supported the pharmacist's decision.
A woman entered the pharmacy with a prescription from a medical doctor -- someone who has gone through years and years and years of medical school and training to learn about medicine and health and patients and prescriptions -- and the pharmacist, a job that, to the best of my knowledge, does not require even a Bachelor's degree -- decides he knows better than the medical doctor what the patient needs. No, that's not entirely accurate: the pharmacist, a complete stranger to this woman, decides what this woman needs based on his own pig-headed personal preferences.
This hit the news, and the company changed its policy. Sorry, I still refuse to ever shop at a CVS.
*The story I'd heard involved EC, but when I Googled for a news link, I found one saying the pharmacist refused to give out PLAIN OLD BIRTH CONTROL. The pharmacist refused to give the woman THE PILL. Seriously??? Where do these people get off???
